Bilaspur MP Tokhan Sahu to represent Chhattisgarh in Modi 3.0 cabinet

The Member of Parliament from Bilaspur Lok Sabha constituency, Tokhan Sahu is likely to be inducted in the new cabinet of Narendra Modi, who will take oath as Prime Minister for the third successive term Sunday evening.

The decision to induct a representative from Chhattisgarh was taken at the last moment, sources in the BJP said. Sahu received a message from the Prime Minister’s Office at noon. He is likely to take oath as in today’s swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.  

Born on October 15, 1969, Sahu hails from Dindori village in Mungeli district. He has studied up to M.Com. He is married to Lilavati Sahu, with whom he has a son and a daughter. His political career started in 1994 with being elected unopposed Panch of Surajpura village of Lormi block.

In January 2005, he became a Janpad Panchayat member from Phulwari Kala. Later, he became the representative of District Cooperative Bank Bilaspur in 2012. He was the patron of District Sahu Samaj.

In 2013, BJP fielded him to contest the assembly elections from Lormi constituency. He defeated Congress candidate and sitting MLA Dharamjit Singh. In 2018, BJP once again expressed confidence in him and fielded him from Lormi assembly but he lost to Janata Congress candidate Dharamjit Singh.

Sahu contested the Lok Sabha election from Bilaspur as BJP candidate and won the election by a margin of over 1.6 lakh votes.
