Union law, justice and IT minister Ravishankar Prasad on Friday recalled the 15-year-old incident of firing on him at an election meeting at Nokha by a supporter of RJD only to flashback the erstwhile “Jungle Raj”.

Addressing a joint press conference of the NDA leaders here Ravishankar said he along with the then union minister, Pramod Mahajan had addressed an election meeting at Nokha in Rohtas district. Suddenly, one person came to the rostrum and fired him twice; one bullet him and he was rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital in a helicopter.

He was operated upon at PMCH and later in AIIMS, New Delhi.

He claimed the police did not investigate the case till Rabri Devi remained as the chief minister of Bihar. When Nitish Kumar became chief minister, a police inspector came to him to record his statement.

He alleged the RJD was formed to facilitate protection to corruption. He also recalled Lalu had given protection to the controversial MP, Shahbuddin, who had fired on the present DG of police, S K Singhal when he was SP of Siwan.

Ravishankar, who is chairman of the campaign committee of the BJP, said in Bihar, Nitish Kumar distributed cycles to the school going girls and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi allowed three IAF women pilots to fly fighter planes.

One of the beneficiaries of the PM’s scheme is a woman pilot from Darbhanga. During RJD rule, girls could not even move on the roads, Ravishankar said.

In his election speeches, chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi too are attacking 15 years of RJD rule

Ravishankar said the RJD was scared of Lalu-Rabri Devi and was not using their photos on the posters and campaign material. If they allowed them on their campaign material, people would be reminded of the Jungle Raj.

“It is unfortunate, Tejaswhi and Tejpratap are afraid of carrying the legacy of their parents on the campaign,” he quipped.
