Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took the lead in announcing the candidates for the ensuing assembly elections in Chhattisgarh by releasing the first list of leaders to contest the polls.
The BJP head office in New Delhi on Thursday released the list of 21 candidates out of 90 for the coming Chhattisgarh state elections. The announcement came after the meeting of the central election committee held in New Delhi on Wednesday that was chaired by party President J P Nadda.
The meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other members, discussed the candidates for the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Just a day later, the party announced the first list of candidates for Chhattisgarh that has surprised political pundits as the ruling Congress has just started the process to select the candidates.
The prominent names in the first list include Chhattisgarh’s former home minister and Rajya Sabha member Ram Vichar Netam and Member of Parliament from Durg Lok Sabha Vijay Baghel. Netam and Baghel would contest from Ramanujganj and Patan respectively.
