Blast at UltraTech Cement plant in Chhattisgarh, three killed

Raipur, July 18

Three people were killed while three others sustained injuries in a major industrial accident at the UltraTech cement plant in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar district on Tuesday afternoon.

Of the injured, the condition of two was reported to be critical. The injured have been rushed to hospital in the state capital.

The Balodabazar Superintendent of Police, Deepak Jha had confirmed the incident. The preliminary investigation suggested that the oxygen cylinder in the plant exploded.

The impact of the blast was so severe that dark plumes of dust billowed into the air. When it settled, a horrific scene at the site shocked the people. The mutilated bodies of three persons were lying shattered while the injured were screaming in pain.

The identity of the victims was not revealed as there was no official word from the plant management. However, the trade union blamed that poor safety measures at the plant had resulted in the incident.
