The Blast Furnaces of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have set new production records in the H-1 of the current financial year 2025-26.
The Blast Furnace-1 and Blast Furnace-5 produced 5,55,524 tons and 15,93,968 tons of hot metal respectively in the first six months to register their best ever April-September performances. The State-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) performed in tandem by rolling 13,05,557 tons of HR Coils in the same period to register its best H-1 performance which is a growth rate of 3.2 per cent over the corresponding period last year (CPLY).
The Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) also produced 1,52,415 to record its best H-1 performance. The New Plate Mill (NPM) rolled 5,03,933 tons of plates to record its best ever April-September performance surpassing the previous best figure of 4,65,198 tons achieved in the same period 2023-24. The direct dispatch from the plant reached an all-time high of 15,87,547 tons during H-1 of 2025–26, exceeding the previous best figure of 15,81,275 tons recorded during the corresponding period of 2023–24.
In September 2025, RSP set new benchmarks by producing 3,46,567 tons of saleable steel, its best-ever September performance. Blast Furnace-1 tapped 96,727 tons of hot metal, surpassing its earlier best of 88,279 tons achieved in September 2024. HSM-2 rolled 2,37,197 tons of HR coils, its highest for any September. SSL also recorded its best-ever September performance by producing 29,010 tons, while NPM rolled 83,862 tons of plates, improving upon its previous best of 83,217 tons achieved in September 2023.
Other highlights of H-1 include the successful execution of an API X52 PSL-1 order in 14” diameter in the ERW Pipe Plant, and 6000 tons rolling of thinner sections below 2 mm and 19500 tons at 2 mm thickness in HSM-2. The Steel Plant also registered significant improvements in techno-economics, including Best-ever H-1 steel ladle average life of 93.0 in SMS-1 and 143.7 in SMS-2, Best snorkel life of 150 in SMS-2, Best average SMS-2 converter life of 7,700 heats.
