Women commandos in restive Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh are up for another battle, donating blood to save lives in the pocket that has seen vicious violence in the past.
Thanks to the 2010-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Sadanand Kumar who took up the initiative. The Narayanpur Superintendent of Police convinced his cadre that blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give. The IPS officer convinced his cadre the reason to donate—it helps save lives.
Globally, every two seconds, someone needs blood. Since blood cannot be manufactured outside the body and has a limited shelf life, the supply must constantly be replenished by generous blood donors. While 37 per cent of the population is eligible to donate blood, yet only 5 per cent actually do.
However, Sadanand Kumar’s call was duly responded as women commandos of the security force marched forward for the noble cause. Roshni Nag, a woman commando, was the latest in the league.
Posted in District Reserve Group (DRG) Narayanpur, she donated blood on Wednesday to a sick woman who is residing in worst Maoists affected Garpa village in Abujhmad. The entire region of Abujhmad is infamous for the deadly Maoist violence in the past.
A large number of women commandos have come forward for serving the society and setting an example of humanity. It all started with a group of women cops who donated blood on June 14 to mark the Blood Donor Day.
The donors are eligible for a cash reward—a practice started by Sadanand Kumar as a token of appreciation.
