Raipur, September 8

The members of the BALCO Karmachari Sangh (BKS), affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, attacked the officials and security personnel of Vedanta-owned aluminium plant on Wednesday.

The attack was well planned, as the assailants targeted the officials and security personnel, manhandled after abusing them.

Once again, the BMS members reportedly defied the order of the Labor Court and resorted to dharna without any prior notice outside the Parsabhata Gate on Wednesday morning. The two employees were accompanied by their family members who staged a vehement demonstration at the main entrance of BALCO.

Both the employees were transferred as per normal procedure. But they remained unofficially absent from their duty for about four months in protest. During the period, the BALCO management sent several notices to both the absent employees, but they neither responded nor reported on duty. Taking action as per the norms, the BALCO management withheld the salary of both the employees under ‘No Work No Pay’.

When the employees resorted to dharna Wednesday morning, the management informed them that their protest was illegal. According to the order of the Labor Court, no demonstration can be held illegally around the factory that can affect the normal business. By noon the workers retreated from the main gate and called off the dharna.

But in the evening, the BKS members again mobilized and blocked the movement at the main entrance.  A team of BALCO officials along with security personnel reached to talk to the members. During the conversation, the BKS members suddenly became furious and scuffled with the BALCO officials and the security team.

BALCO is a factory of national importance and also very sensitive from the point of view of security. The incident is worrying.

The plant management lodged a complaint with the Balconagar police that has filed FIR against the BMS members involved in the incident.
