Denver, July 27
Another Boeing! An American Airlines 737 MAX 8 caught fire on the runway at Denver Airport after its left main wheel reportedly malfunctioned during takeoff for Miami on Saturday.
The flight was carrying 173 passengers and six crew members. One person was taken to a hospital after an equipment problem on an American Airlines flight at Denver International Airport forced passengers and crew to evacuate onto the runway.
American Airlines flight 3023 was departing for Miami International Airport when there was a “maintenance issue” with an airplane tire. One person was taken to a hospital with a minor injury, airline officials said, adding that five others were evaluated on scene but were not taken to the hospital.
The preliminary investigation said the issue was reported to be a problem with a landing gear, but American Airlines officials later said it involved one of the plane’s tires and happened before takeoff. The aircraft was taken out of service for inspection.
Federal Aviation Administration officials identified the aircraft as a Boeing 737 MAX 8 and said the agency would investigate the incident. The videos and photographs filmed showed smoke coming from below the airplane and that evacuation slides had been deployed.
Hundreds of flights were delayed Saturday afternoon after the runway response, with 435 flight delays and 14 cancellations. This is the second incident involving Boeing 737 this year with American Airlines. In March, a Boeing 737-800 that took off from Colorado Springs had to make an emergency landing at DIA after one of the engines caught fire.
The Boeing planes has been reportedly meeting with accidents regularly. An Air India plane Boeing 737 bound for London’s Gatwick airport crashed shortly after taking off in Ahmedabadon 12 June, killing 260 people. The crash killed 242 people on board the flight and 19 others on the ground, with only one survivor from the plane.
A sector of media had tried to blame the pilots for the tragic incident before the official report could be out.
