After 10 days of extensive medical care, 10-year-old Rahul Sahu was discharged from a private hospital where he was rushed after rescued from a borewell in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa distict.
Rahul, who is mentally challenged, fell into a borewell in his village Pihrid and stuck 80 feet below on June 10. The brave boy battled for life for 105 hours in the borewell and was rescued in the intervening night of June 14 and 15 in the operation learnt to be longest in the country.
The rescuers had to face manifold challenges as Rahul’s mental state prevented them to easily pull him with hook. When the work for creating parallel tunnel started, huge rocks hindered and delay the operation. Finally, the team led by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) evacuated the boy from the tunnel.
He was rushed to a private hospital in Bilaspur. Being stuck in the borewell, a portion of Rahul’s body was under water and he had severe infections. Besides, there were minor scratches in the body.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel visited the hospital and enquired about his health. He directed the doctors to take all necessary measures to ensure best medical care. The state government bore the medical expenses.
After 10 days in hospital, Rahul was finally discharged from hospital today afternoon. The doctors said he was fit and fine.
