The troopers of Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major plot designed by the insurgents by defusing a powerful bomb in Koraput district of Odisha.
Acting on a specific input, a party of Road Search Operation (RSO) from the 151th battalion stationed at Mantriam Company Operating Base (COB) left for an operation at around 7 am today. While trudging down the National Highway (NH) 326, the troopers spotted fresh digging at two places between Mantriam and Govindpalli.
The alert party secured and searched the area with help of an explosive dog and mine detector. The team communicated it to the company commander at COB Mantriam. Later, the commandant was briefed about the incident. As per the direction of the commandant, the complete area was cordoned off by sending reinforcement.
During the fresh search launched with the help of an explosive dog and mine detector, the team could discover a powerful improvised explosive device (IED). The unit of bomb disposal squad (BD) was called for further action. The BD team confirmed IED at one place while the second place was suspected to be dummy.
The team successfully defused the bomb and averted a major incident planned by the suspected Left wing extremists.
