Vinod Nair, a talented player working in the Enforcement section of Town Services Department of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant and Ms. Saroj Bala, an energetic player working in the Finance and Accounts Department of BSP have brought laurels to the Bhilai with their sports talent.
Vinod Nair and Ms. Saroj Bala of BSP have been selected as referees in the Volleyball competition organized by Sports Authority of India Limited, Government of India under the Khelo India program in the prestigious University Games-2021 organized at Jain University, Bengaluru in the month of April. This tournament is being held in Bengaluru from April 23 to April 26, 2022.
The second edition of the Khelo India University games was supposed to be held in the year 2021 but was later postponed to 2022 due to the COVID pandemic.
Nair has been NIS Volleyball Coach and has made Bhilai proud by contributing as referee in International and National Championships. It may be noted that Vinod Nair was awarded the Veer Hanuman Singh Award in the year 2014 for the best contribution made by him as International Referee of Volleyball match by the Government of Chhattisgarh.
In addition, Nair participated as an official in the Asian Qualification Tournament for the World Women’s Championship in China in the year 2014. He also participated in the 17th Asian Senior Women Volleyball Championship in Thailand. Served as Technical Official in the 5th FIVB Men’s Under-21 World Volleyball Championship in Pune (Maharashtra).
Contributed as referee in 6th Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship in Thailand, Indo-Pak Men’s Volleyball Test Series in Visakhapatnam and 2nd Commonwealth Volleyball Championship (Men) in Kolkata. In this sequence, he served as a technical official in the 13th World Men’s Under-21 Volleyball Championship in Visakhapatnam. It is worth mentioning that Vinod Nair has served as International Referee as well as Technical Official in more than 20 different National Volleyball Championships and as Coach in more than fifteen tournaments in his playing career.
Ms. Saroj Bala has the distinction of being the first female volleyball national referee of Chhattisgarh and has also made Bhilai proud by contributing as a referee in many national competitions. The sports fraternity of Bhilai has congratulated both these personnel for their remarkable achievement.
