District administration on Sunday freed 40 acres of land at Rajiv Nagar in western Patna by using 20 bulldozers.
Over 25 people who resisted the anti-encroachment drive were arrested. District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh, who supervised the drive, informed that city SP of Patna and two policemen were injured in stone pelting by the agitators. Police had lobbed teargas shells to disperse the agitators.
Singh claimed people had encroached upon the land of Bihar state housing board, constructed houses and shops. They claimed title of the land by presenting documents of the registration department, mutation records and revenue receipts that were found false, fake and fabricated.
Sanjiv Kumar Chaurasiya, BJP MLA from Digha constituency, opposed demolition drive and alleged administration did not give advance notice to the dwellers. He regretted alleged police brutality. Rajeev Nagar is a part of Digha constituency.
Demolition drive started at 5 am in the morning and was suspended for a while when policemen were injured. With the arrival of reinforcement, the bulldozers were put into action and all disputed buildings were demolished by the evening.
Bihar government had acquired land from local farmers in 1980 and had handed it to Bihar state housing board for development.
