The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Amitava Mukherjee as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
The Ministry of Steel in its order dated March 5, 2025 said: “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Steel for appointment of Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance), NMDC Limited as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) in NMDC Limited.” The order comes into effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post till the date of his superannuation on February 29, 2028 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the notification said.
On November 14, 2024, the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) had selected Amitava Mukherjee for the post of CMD, NMDC. He has been holding the additional charge as CMD since the retirement of Sumit Deb on January 31, 2023.
In December last, Mukherjee was given the additional charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of the company till November 2025.
Mukherjee is a 1995 batch Indian Railway Accounts Service officer. Under his leadership, the company made a landmark in production with 45M MT iron ore in the last financial year.
