CCL becomes Coal India’s maiden arm for MDO mode

Central Coalfields Limited(CCL) signed Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with M/s JMS Mining Private Limited for the operation of Piparwar Underground Mines through the mine, developer and operator (MDO) mode at CCL Headquarters, Ranchi today.

This will be the first underground mine in Coal India Limited (CIL) which will be operated  by the MDO model. GM (Piparwar) C B.Sahay signed an MoU in the presence of CMD, CCL P M Prasad, Director Tech (P&P) S K Gomasta, Director (Finance) P K Mishra at company’s HQ in Ranchi. Director Technical, M/s JMS Mining Private Ltd Kalyan Kumar Hajara, signed the MoU on behalf of his company.

Technical Secretary to CMD CCL Alok Kumar Singh, Technical Secretary to Director Technical (P&P) P K Singh and Technical Secretary to Director (Finance) Sanjay Singh and others were present during the programme.

The project when operational will have an annual production capacity of 0.87 million tonnes per annum.

The project will utilize the best state of the art technology to ensure that the ecosystem of the area is not hampered by mining activities. The project has a capital outlay of Rs 1889.04 crore.  The mines will be operational for 14 years and Eco-Friendly-Blast free Mining will be done to minimize the detrimental effect on the environment.

In the MDO mode, the contractor carries out the entire spectrum of activities right from obtaining the Environmental Clearance & Forest Clearance, R&R activities, obtaining applicable permits, licenses etc., developing projects (including detailed designing, financing, mine construction, procurement of mining and other equipment), operate & maintain Mine for excavation/extraction and delivery of coal in accordance with Annual Production Program etc.

Speaking on the occasion CMD, CCL Prasad said that the company was committed to fulfilling the vision of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi through sustainable mining. He further added that when operating, Piparwar Underground Mine will help in the holistic development of the local community and will create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for the people of the area.

The company broke all the previous records with the production of 68.6 MT coal in the previous fiscal and is  confident of increasing  the same in the present fiscal. Piparwar Area has been one of the most prestigious and one of the highest producing Areas of CCL with last year (FY 2021-22) annual production of 13.13 MT.

Piparwar Opencast Mine of Piparwar Area was the first mine in Coal India where the fully Mobile Inpit Crushing and Conveying System along with state-of-the-art CHP-CPP was installed, which makes it unique in itself.
