Raipur, April 22
The students of Prayas Residential School in Raipur today had an unexpected storyteller as Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took time to share the tales.
Fondly known as Kaka (uncle), Bhupesh took leaf out of Chacha Nehru’s (Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru) experience to narrate the stories underlining the strength and power of democracy. The Chief Minister has visited the premises for inauguration of the school set up at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
The Chief Minister narrated the story of Pandit Nehru in his class of democracy and told the children how there was a difference in governance between a democratic India and an India under slavery. He cited an example and said after Independence, an old woman once grabbed Nehru Ji’s collar and asked, “Tell me Jawahar, what have I got from this freedom? To which Nehru Ji replied, “You have received the right to question, and you can even quiz the Prime Minister of India.”
Baghel told the children that the policies in India under slavery were not made drafted to the people’s favor but according to the self-interests of the British colonial system. He said that the finest quality muslin was prepared in India. The product was so fine that it would even fit in the ring. Through their policies, the Britishers had forced India to be completely dependent on Manchester Mills for muslin production.
The Chief Minister told the children about their rights and duties. The Chief Minister said that democracy had granted freedom of expression, but at the same time, it also talked about the necessary duties to follow as a responsible citizen. He expounded it with the example of traffic sense. “If you don’t follow the rules then you have to pay a fine,” Bhupesh said.
The Chief Minister also asked questions to the children. He quizzed who were the members of the Hindi Committee in the Constituent Assembly in Chhattisgarh. He told them about the late Shri Ghanshyam Gupta ji, who is related to Durg and played a significant role in the committee. He also informed the children about Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who headed the committee drafting the Constitution.
The students also cleared their doubts from the Chief Minister.
