Raipur, December 14
Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly today witnessed an unruly scene over the allocation of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the state.
While the opposition BJP members alleged that the state government failed to provide its share and allot houses to the poor people, the Congress-led government contested and said the state was due to get a huge amount from the Centre. In the PMAY, a mass housing scheme for the poor, Centre provides 60 per cent while 40 per cent is contributed by the respective state.
Chhattisgarh’s Panchayat Minister T S Singh Deo said the state had sought time from the Centre to share its contribution, but it was not entertained and the allotment was withdrawn.
Former Minister and senior BJP legislator Ajay Chandrakar, who raised the issue, quizzed why the state government was not getting a loan for housing scheme for the poor when it had already crossed the fiscal discipline in terms of state debts. He asked would the state government return all the scheme to the Centre in which it had to contribute 40 per cent?
Parliamentary Minister Ravindra Choubey said the Centre was partial with the state and it was the root of the fiscal constraints.
Former Chief Minister Raman Singh said the government would complete the two lakh houses for which it had received the installment. Singh Deo said the state government had admitted that 2.74 houses were incomplete. He denied the structure was shabby and could collapse.
The Opposition members charged that the state government was poaching houses meant for the poor. As the members from the treasury benches opposed, pandemonium broke out in the House.
As the chaos continued, Speaker Charan Das Mahant adjourned the House for Wednesday morning.
