The Chhattisgarh government has decided to allot land to the BEML Limited, formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited, for setting up plant for mining and infrastructure equipment.

The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting held on Thursday that was chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. “With the objective of promoting local employment and micro-small industries, the Council of Ministers has given in-principle approval to BEML to set up a Heavy Earth Moving Equipment Manufacturing Plant in the state,” a state government spokesperson said. The state government has decided to allot 100 acres of land at a token rate, the spokesperson added.

The Leading public sector unit last month announced that it is mulling establishing a plant in Chhattisgarh with a focus on producing high-performance dump trucks, water sprinklers, and motor graders, catering to the increasing demand in the mining and infrastructure sectors. The development came after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai invited the PSU formally at the Investor Connect event held in Bengaluru last month.

Sai presented the official ‘Invitation to Invest” to BEML officials. Sai also met the BEML Managing Director Shantanu Roy and explained to him the state’s commitment to fostering industrial development.

A global leader in mining and construction equipment manufacturing heavy equipment, such as that used for earth moving, railways, transport and mining, the company is strategically expanding its footprint to capitalize on growing infrastructure demands. BEML is advancing its product portfolio with high-capacity motor graders, tyre handlers, and loaders, strengthening its position in the high-capacity mining sector.

Headquartered in Bangalore, BEML is Asia’s second-largest manufacturer of earth moving equipment.
