Chhattisgarh has been adjudged as the fourth best-governed state in the country while Telangana has been placed at the third among the 18 larger state categories, according to the Public Affairs Index (PAI)-2021 released by the Public Affairs Centre.
Kerala has topped the list with score 1.618 followed by Tamil Nadu with 0.897 points. While Telangana bagged 0.891 points, Chhattisgarh has scored 0.872 to get in the fourth position. The ranking underlines governance by looking into growth, equity and sustainability indicators. Last year, Chhattisgarh was ranked fifth.
According to the 6th edition of the Public Affairs Index (PAI 2021) report by the Public Affairs Centre (PAC), a Bengaluru-based non-profit think tank, Chhattisgarh also ranked third in the sustainability index with score 0.946. The sustainability index ranks states based on access to and use of resources. This has an impact on the economy, environment and humankind.
PAI 2021 looks at Governance performance in the context of sustainable development defined by three Pillars – Equity, Growth and Sustainability, five Themes, 14 SDGs and 43 indicators. Apart from the Pillar-wise rankings and analysis, PAI 2021 also features an assessment of the effectiveness of implementation of five Centrally Sponsored Schemes-Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), National Health Mission (NHM), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Samagra Siksha Abhiyan (SmSA) and Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDMS).
Another highlight of the PAI 2021 is the COVID-19 Response Index – an analysis of the Governance response of the States to the pandemic and the degree of success achieved in mitigating its impact.
