Bastar police participated with pomp and gaiety to celebrate the historic world-famous Dussehra even as its stall remained a centre of attraction for the people and the tourists visiting the picturesque destination.
The 75-day Bastar Dussehra is the unique cultural trait of Chhattisgarh, marked by the local people with sufficient vigor. The festival of Bastar Dussehra, which is now famous across the globe, connotes the supreme power of goddess Danteswari. During Dussehra, the inhabitants of Bastar organize special worship ceremonies at the Danteshwari temple of Jagdalpur on this occasion with a rath (chariot) made in which the goddess sits.
The Bastar police participated in the celebration with full zeal. Continuing with the tradition, the policemen give gun salute before the chariot parikrama, which started from September 27 to October from Sirhasar Bhawan of Jagdalpur city to the temple of Danteshwari Mai ji. The salute is given by the Bastar Police in honor of Maa Danteshwari. For the last two years, the women police force and women police band have been performing the duty.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range Sundarraj P said due to the positive image being created towards Bastar region in the last years and the promotion being given to the local tribal culture and tradition, a large number of people came from outside to see Bastar Dussehra festival. Keeping in mind the movement of tourists and devotees, necessary arrangements were made by the Bastar Police and the local administration.
The exhibition stall put up by Bastar Police remains a major attraction that showcased the efforts being made by the government, administration and security forces for the peace, security and the development of the Bastar region.
The Bastar police along with the district administration had made adequate arrangements that ensured the safe and successful completion of the historic event.
