Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel paid a rich tribute to Martyr Vinod Choubey and 28 policemen who laid down their lives in line of duty.
Vinod Choubey was the first serving Superintendent of Police and Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in the country to attain martyrdom while combating the Maoists in the state. He along with 28 policemen gave the supreme sacrifice when Maoists ambushed security personnel in Madanwada near Maanpur on July 12, 2009.
The IPS officer showed exemplary courage, leadership quality and remained in the frontline with the troop to take on the rebels. He was awarded with Kirti Chakra, the second in order of precedence of peacetime gallantry awards, posthumously for fighting heroically with iron determination and grit.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday led the state in paying solemn tributes to the fallen heroes. “Vinod Choubey ji and his team sacrificed their lives for the soil of Chhattisgarh without caring for their lives. We all bow down to such great sons and offer our floral tributes. We all are proud of you. Jai Hind,” Baghel said in a tweet.
The other martyrs include Vinod Dhruv, Uni Komal Sahu, Uni Dhanesh Sahu, Pr Sundar Lal Chaudhary, Pr Dushyant Singh, R Premchand Paswan, R Arvind Sharma, Pr Geeta Bhandari, Pr Zakharius Khalkho, Pr Sanjay Yadav, Constable Prakash Verma during the encounter with Naxalites. , R Beduram Suryavanshi, R Subhash Kumar Behera, R Tikeshwar Deshmukh, R Suryapal Vatti, R Ajay Kumar Bhardwaj, R Manoj Verma, R Lokesh Chediah, R Shyamlal Bhoi, R Mithlesh Kumar Sahu, R Rajnikanth, R Nikesh Sahu, R Santram Sahu , R Jhaduram Sahu, R Amit Nayak, R Vedprakash Yadav, R Ritesh Kumar Vaishnav and R Lal Bahadur Nag.
