Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel today pulled up state’s police officers and asked them to deliver a concrete action plan instead of filing figures and data.

The Chief Minister was addressing the two-day Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) conference that started in the state capital today. Stressing for visible policing, he directed the SPs to personally go for night patrol to curb crimes. “The police are doing a good job but there is still space for improvement,” Baghel said.

A state government spokesperson said the Chief Minister expressed displeasure over the slow action in the cases of chit funds. He directed the officials to accelerate the pending investigation and arrest the Directors of the company who are still absconding. Baghel asked to attach the properties of the companies located in other states.

The Chief Minister has been sensitive on the issue and is ensuring that the investors get back their money duped by the companies. With his efforts, over Rs 40 crore has been returned to the investors.

During the conference, the Chief Minister asked the officials for a strict vigil on the narcotics coming from adjoining states. The police officials were taken aback when the Chief Minister directly quizzed how the drugs and narcotics were easily available? Baghel instructed the officials to get to the root of the cause and cut the supply line. He also took strong exception over the incident of spurious liquor seized in the state.  “Instead of taking minor actions, the police must catch the big fishes,” Baghel exhorted.

The other issues that drew the Chief Minister’s attention included online gambling, crimes against women and children. Baghel asked the officials to ensure quick transfer of financial aid to the victims belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Focusing to adopt the policy of zero tolerance with the criminals, the Chief Minister raised concern over the escalating incidents of stabbing.

Reviewing the law and order situation in the Maoist-affected pockets, Baghel directed a thick security blanket to those engaged in the infrastructure development projects and also to the prominent persons visiting the area. Baghel said due to better road connectivity, development projects could be expedited in the interior areas.

The Chief Minister said the work for installing mobile towers in the Maoists-infested areas would be sped up while focus would be on setting up camps of security forces combating the red army and providing better education and health facilities to the people.
