Chief Minister lends shoulder to mortal remains of the officer

Chhattisgarh on Tuesday bid a tearful adieu to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao Giripunje who was killed in a Maoist attack on Monday in Sukma district.
The brave-heart hailing from Raipur was seriously injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Maoists near Konta in Sukma district on Monday morning. Giripunje along with two other injured officers were shifted to Konta government hospital where he died during treatment. The condition of two injured officers is reported to be stable.
The body of ASP was brought to the state capital on Monday morning. On Tuesday, the body was kept at the 4th Battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force at Mana to pay the last respect to the officer who laid down his life combating the extremists. Prominent personalities along with a sea of people thronged to pay their last respect to the officer, who left behind wife and two children.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai led the state to pay emotional tribute to the officer. Sai laid the wreath on the mortal remains and gave a respectful farewell to the martyr by shouldering the coffin. The last rites took place at Mahadev Ghat on the bank of Kharun River.
Earlier, Sai met the bereaved family of the martyr and expressed his deep condolences and consoled them. The Chief Minister said that martyr ASP had made the supreme sacrifice by showing indomitable courage, loyalty and dedication towards his duty. “We are proud of him. The government stands shoulder to shoulder with his family in this hour of grief,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that the Maoists were frustrated due to the continuous successful actions of the security forces. The Chhattisgarh government is fully committed to deal with the challenge. He said that the bravery and patriotism of martyr Akash Rao Girpunje will always be remembered.
Besides Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao, Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, MLA Purandar Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary Home Department Manoj Kumar Pingua, Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh, family members of the martyr, public representatives and a large number of common citizens were present in the last journey of the police officer.
