Raipur, August 24
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists today came out on the streets in the state capital of Chhattisgarh to lodge a vehement protest against the Congress government led by Bhupesh Baghel.
All roads leading to the Chief Minister’s residence turned into a saffron sea. The activists of the BJYM, the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had announced to gherao the residence of the Chief Minister in protest against unemployment and allegedly failing to fulfil the commitment made for the youths in the 2018 election manifesto of Congress.
The demonstration “Halla Bol” (raise your voice) was led by BJYM National President and Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya and Chhattisgarh BJP President Arun Sao. The BJP leaders and BJYM workers gathered near the Municipal Corporation office from where the march to Chief Minister’s House started. The BJYM workers had planned to move from other corners too.
A heavy police bandobast was made in the capital city. However, the two barricades on the way to the Chief Minister House were razed by the furious workers even as policemen had to struggle hard to stop the advancing workers. The BJP leaders claimed that the police used force to disperse the workers in which a few sustained serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the police also claimed that a few security personnel including women were injured in the tussle. The BJP MLAs including former Chief Minister Raman Singh were detained during the agitation. The other leaders courted arrest.
The Congress claimed that the demonstration of the BJYM was a flop show as the number of activists participating was marginal to the one claimed by its leaders.
