The stunning rescue operation of 11-year-old Rahul Sahu in Chhattisgarh will be in reels as the state government has decided to make a documentary of the 105-hour action.

Rahul accidentally fell in a borewell in Pihrid village of Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district and stuck 80-feet beneath on Friday. The NDRF, SDF, Indian Army and location administration launched a massive search operation and rescued the boy after 105 hours of tireless operation that witnessed manifold challenges.

Since Rahul has some mental problem, he was not responding.  Amidst the given situation, the building parallel tunnel was planned but the challenges were rocky. As the team advanced every inch, the rocky layer created obstacles and delayed the work.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who personally monitored the rescue operation, today felicitated all those who were actively involved in the mission. Besides the NDRF personnel, officials and staff of SDRF, local civil administration, police, public relations, mining department and the individuals who helped in arranging machineries, camera, lights, and other materials were honoured by the Chief Minister.

In his address, Baghel said the biggest rescue operation of the country was a daunting task but the team successfully accomplished it with the joint efforts. The Chief Minister exhorted that a documentary on the rescue operation should be made to enable people across the state and country to see the action on screen. Baghel said it would also be a lesson for the others to learn and prevent such incidents in future.

The state government officials said following the suggestion of the Chief Minister, a documentary on Rahul’s rescue operation would be filmed. However, it could not be clarified whether the documentary would be made in Hindi or the local Chhattisgarh language.

A number of documentaries and films have been made in different states based on the incident of borewell rescue operations. The first movie, way back before the 2006 Prince incident, was screen in Malayalam in 1990 with titled Malooty. Five-year-old Malooty was visiting her grandparents’ home and ended up falling in a borewell while playing ball with her dog. A parallel tunnel was created to rescue her successfully.

In the recent past, movie based on a similar theme was made in Tamil language with the title Aramm in 2017. Later, its Telugu version Karthavyam was released.
