Chhattisgarh capital to have Police Commissionerate system from January 23

Raipur, January 21

The Government of Chhattisgarh has issued a notification regarding the implementation of the Police Commissionerate system in the capital Raipur.

As per this notification issued by the Home (Police) Department, Raipur city area has been formally declared as Police Commissionerate. The arrangement will be effective from 23 January 2026, the notification said.

“Addressing the need to effectively deal with complex issues of law and order, crime and internal security in particular area i.e. Raipur urban police district, the government finds it expedient to establish Commissionerate system of police,” the notification said. With the implementation of the system, the Commissioner of Police will be conferred with the power of executive magistrate, it added.

The Commissionerate would be manned by one Commissioner of Police (CP), who would be of Inspector General of Police (IGP) rank. He would be assisted by one Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) rank.

Besides, there would be five Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), nine Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) and 21 Assistant Commissioner of Police.
