Cartoon Watch organises live cartoons show on World Cartoonist Day today

On World Cartoonist Day, the country’s only cartoon magazine Cartoon Watch has organized a cartoon competition at the all India level.
Cartoonists from all over the country participated in the event organized with the cooperation of the Culture Department and Chhattisgarh Tourism Board. This year’s theme was – Tourists will not be afraid of terrorism.
Editor of Cartoon Watch Triambak Sharma said that despite being such a complex subject, interesting and inspiring cartoons had been received from different parts of the country. An exhibition of these cartoons will be held on May 5, 2025 in the auditorium of Raipur Indian Coffee House, Civil Lines from 5 pm. This exhibition will run for two days.
Sharma said that the competition received a very good response and its results were as follows. The first prize of Rs 10,000 was jointly bagged by Uday Vittal from Karnataka and Vivek Sengupta from Bengaluru, while the second prize of Rs 7,000 was secured between Kapil Gholap from Pune and Valluri Krishna from Hyderabad. The third prize of Rs 5,000 was shared between Debashish from Bhubaneswar and Manoj from Kerala.
Apart from these, 20 special prizes of Rs 1,000 each are also being given to 20 cartoonists whose names are as follows – Ashwani Abani from Odisha, B Hari from Visakhapatnam, Bhupati Tunuki from Telangana, Deepak Sharma from Raipur, Dinesh Dhangwal, K.G. Kadam and Ravindra Balapure from Maharashtra, Kishore Meena from New Delhi, Mrityunjay, Mohan Kumar and SVR Arun from Hyderabad, N Hari and NVR Nagishetty from Andhra Pradesh, Najunda Swamy and Naganath from Bengaluru, Neelshekhar Handa and Dilip Sharma from Madhya Pradesh, Madhusudhanan from Kerala and Vasudev Hardaha from Dangargarh. Sharma informed that on World Cartoonist Day, a demonstration of on the spot cartoon making will be held in the auditorium of Indian Coffee House, Civil Lines. Cartoonist Rajesh Naik is specially coming to Raipur from Pune for the event. A seminar will also be organised on – Is the dying art really ending?
Caricature making workshop to be held on May 6. Sharma said that today is the era of AI tools like apps and Ghibli but despite this, handmade art is a different thing. The art of making faces in cartoons is called caricature. Today, even the best fine art student can make sketches but cannot make cartoons.
Cartoonist Rajesh Naik from Pune will conduct a workshop on the art of caricature making from 4 to 6 in the evening. Google registration will be mandatory for this workshop and people below the age of 15 years will not be able to participate in it.
