Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the 1320 MW Super Critical Thermal Power Station in Korba district.
The power project that will give new height in the energy sector will entail an investment of Rs 12915 crore, officials said. The cost will be Rs 9.78 crore per MW. The power station will have two units of 660 MW each.
At present, the installed capacity of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company is 2978.7 MW. At the time of state formation in November 2000, the capacity was just 1360 MW. Keeping in view the future requirement, two new units of 660 MW each are being set up at Korba.
This 1320 MW super critical thermal power station will be the biggest and modern plant in the state. With this, on the one hand, the state will become self-sufficient in power generation, while on the other hand, new employment opportunities will be created.
The Chief Minister had announced plans to set up the plant on August 25, 2022. Following the announcement, Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company worked at a fast pace and obtained necessary permissions and approvals.
The state government has set a target to commission the first unit of 660 MW by 2029 and the second unit by 2030. The new plant will be set up on 71 hectares of vacant land in the old HTPS complex. The proposed new project will require 28 MCM of water and 6.5 MTPA of coal.
