The villagers of Baldakchar village in Balodabazar district of Chhattisgarh today saw their Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in a new role.
A masonry trowel on one hand and a brick on the other, the Chief Minister shared his labour contribution in a soak pit being constructed in the village for water conservation.
Sai reached Baldakchar village, a village dominated by Kamar tribe of Kasdol, under the state-wide Sushasan Tihar on Friday. He observed the soak pit being constructed by Jal Sanchay Vahini for water conservation under the More Village, More Water (my village, my water campaign). He himself took a trowel and laid bricks in the soak pit under construction.
Appreciating the work of Jal Sanchay Vahini to save water, the Chief Minister said that such efforts were necessary to avoid water crisis.
Jal Sanchay Vahini member Lalita Dhruv said that under the campaign, soak pits had been constructed near 10 tube wells in Baldakchar so far. Under the campaign, people are being made aware about cleaning of ponds, awareness rally, wall writing, water harvesting system.
It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has started the More Village More Water Campaign on April 24, 2025 on the occasion of Panchayat Raj Day. Under the campaign, construction of 2500 soak pits near tube wells has been completed so far in all the 519 gram-panchayats of Balodabazar-Bhatapara district. Along with this, about 1291 ponds have been cleaned.
For water conservation, a meeting of the Gram Water and Sanitation Committee is being organized at the village level, in which the proposal for necessary construction for rainwater harvesting and physical verification of the structures built for water conservation is being done by the villagers. Two water harvesting vahini have been formed in each panchayat that are encouraging the villagers for water conservation.
