Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission (CSCRPC) has given an overt signal of stringent action to prevent child labour in the state.
On the second day of assuming office, Commission Chairperson Varnika Sharma chaired a high-level review meeting and gave necessary instructions to the officials regarding conducting raids in all the districts of the state to prevent child labour. She has circulated a letter to the Labour Department, Women and Child Development Department and all Collectors and District Superintendents of Police to take planned and strict action on eight points.
The new Chairman in her communication underlined that prevention of child labour is not a one-day process but it is a continuous practice. Starting from April 2025, a state-wide seven-day raid campaign should be conducted in all the districts of the entire state in every three months, she said, adding that for the raid, a team should be formed comprising District Child Protection Unit, District Police Administration, police station concerned police station area administration.
The freed child laborers in need of care and protection should be produced before the Child Welfare Committee as soon as possible. Along with this, she has also been instructed to follow all the standard operation procedures (SOPs) issued from time to time at the national and state level for the raid campaign.
Sharma has also written in the instructions that making the International Day for the Prohibition of Child Labour dated June 12, 2025 meaningful, the district level officer of the Labour Department should present the progress report regarding the prevention of child labour before the District Collector in each district. She also recommended to the department that a toll-free number service should be started in the Labour Commissioner’s Office or the State Headquarters so that the general public can easily give information about child labour to the Department.
Keeping in mind the root causes of child labour, the Commission Chairperson has also written that immediate employment should be provided to the family of the rescued child to generate income for which she has recommended implementation of a single window system in the District Collectorate.
