Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel today held a high-level emergency meeting to discuss the measures for managing the third wave of COVID-19 in the state.
“We are certainly heading for the third wave of COVID-19,” Baghel said in a tweet after the meeting that was attended by his cabinet colleagues and top officials of the state administration. Health Minister T S Singh Deo has to skip as he has been tested positive for the novel virus on Sunday.
Baghel however hinted that the state government would go for stringent measures to deal with the situation. “It is inevitable to ban big programmes and gatherings,” he said, signaling many events to come under the scanner that include marriage functions, off-line school, cinema halls.
The Chief Minister said strict execution of COVID protocols had to be followed in the public places. The authorities concerned have been given necessary directions while the hospital administration has been asked to make required arrangements, Baghel said, adding that the wave could be contained by timely identifying the infected person and providing treatment.
The state administration is likely to issue a detailed guideline in this connection. Many states have already taken precautionary measures well in advance to contain the third wave.
Given the intensity of the second wave of COVID-19 in Chhattisgarh, the state government is likely to announce severe restrictions.
