Chhattisgarh court’s landmark decision, lifer for mobile snatchers

In a historic verdict, a court of law at Raipur in Chhattisgarh has given life sentence to mobile snatchers.

According to legal sources, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Class III at Raipur found two persons guilty of snatching mobile phone in the year 2022 in Gudhiyari police station area. The accused Sheikh Shabbir alias Babu and Ashish Mirza alias Lian alias Babu were charged with looting the Redmi company mobile at knife point from Devendra Sahu, who had gone out for a morning walk in September 2022.

The Gudhiyari police registered an offence under relevant sections of robbery and arms act. The court on Monday pronounced the judgment that is seen as a historic order.

The court sentenced both the accused to life imprisonment. It observed that the accused deserved maximum punishment as they tried to harm the victim with sharp weapons that created a sense of insecurity to the family members and also people in the area.

This is the first time that the accused of mobile loot has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
