Chhattisgarh cracks down on doctors prescribing branded drugs

The doctors prescribing branded medicines instead of generic will now face axe in Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has taken a serious note on the issue and took up the matter during a review meeting. The government doctors in the state have been asked to prescribe only generic medicines.

“If the doctors are found floating the instruction, stringent action will be taken,” a state government communication said.

In October last, the state government has launched generic medical store scheme to provide medicines at affordable rates in a bid to make healthcare services accessible to the poorest of poor in the state.

Under the ‘Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store’ scheme, medicines will be made available at affordable rates to consumers. Under the scheme, run by the Urban Administration and Development Department, 188 medical stores had been opened in 169 urban bodies of the state. The medical stores will stock 251 types of generic medicines and 27 surgical products.

The patients are getting heavy discount between 50.09 per cent and 71 per cent on the medicines.
