Eight wagons of an iron ore-laden goods train derailed near Sivalingapuram Yard of Kottavalasa-Kirandul section Thursday morning disrupting rail traffic between Jagdalpur and Visakhapatnam.
A statement issued by the railways said in the early hours of Thursday (02.02.2023) a goods train coming from Bacheli towards Visakhapatnam, derailed near Sivalingapuram Yard before Tunnel-7 in Sivalingapuram-Boddavara section of Kottavalasa-Kirandul section. 8 loaded wagons derailed at the site. Accident Relief Trains from Koraput and Visakhapatnam proceed to site to organise restoration operations, it added.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Waltair Anup Satpathy also proceeded to the site to monitor relief operations. Restoration works are being initiated on war-footing, the railways said, adding that the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul train 08551 had been cancelled for Thursday while refunds were arranged to passengers and online ticket holders were advised to file online TDR for refunds.
The officials said it could take nearly 36 hours for full restoration of traffic on the route.
The goods train that derailed was ferrying iron ore from the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) mines located in Dantewada to Visakhapatnam. The state-run miner had been running two of its three mechanised mines in Kirandul and Bacheli; transporting iron ore through tracks.
