Raipur, November 18
In a major announcement, providing significant relief to the state’s electricity consumers, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced a new electricity scheme in a special session of the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
Domestic consumers consuming up to 200 units of electricity will now receive the full benefit of half electricity bill for up to 200 units.
This decision will directly benefit 36 lakh domestic consumers in the state. Consumers consuming between 200 and 400 units of electricity will also receive the benefit of paying half rate of electricity bill for up to 200 units for the next one year, benefiting 6 lakh consumers. These consumers have been granted a one-year exemption so that they can install solar plants in their homes under the PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme.
Chief Minister stated that the state government’s top priority is to provide affordable, smooth, and reliable electricity to every consumer. Due to the time-consuming process of installing solar plants, a new scheme is being implemented for domestic consumers starting December 1st, which will significantly reduce electricity bills for the general public.
Sai also informed that the state government is providing subsidies under the PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, which provides an additional subsidy of Rs 15,000 for a 1 kilowatt solar plant and Rs 30,000 for a plant with a capacity of 2 kilowatts or more. This scheme will encourage the adoption of solar energy in the state and, in the future, will move consumers from half electricity to free electricity.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this decision will not only reduce public electricity bills but will also be a strong step towards making the state self-reliant in the energy sector.
