Jagdalpur, December 12

Four persons including a woman were killed when the car they were travelling in reportedly fell into a well in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.

The victims have been identified as Sapan Sarkar (66), his wife Rita (50), both residents of Umerkote in Odisha. Their relatives Vishwajit Adhikari and Hazarilal Dhadi, both residents of Kondagaon, also died in the incident.

Sapan, who works in Tehsil office, had come to attend a marriage function in Govindpur on December 6. On Saturday night, they started for Kondagaon. When they failed to reach the destination, relatives started tracing their whereabouts. But they failed to get any clue as the mobile phones were also not responding.

Fearing abduction, Sapan’s son lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday. The police launched a massive hunt and finally received a clue on Monday morning that a car was spotted inside a well near Jungle Warfare School on the National Highways -30. With the help of a crane, the car was pulled down after hard efforts.

Based on the identity cards, they were recognized. However, mystery shrouds a car plunging into the well. On the basis of preliminary investigation, police suspect that the driver lost control over wheels and the vehicle fell into the well. However, the police have started a thorough investigation into the incident.
