Guwahati, October 13
Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka on Monday visited the residence of late singer Zubeen Garg at Kahilipara in Guwahati to extend condolences to the bereaved family.
The celebrated singer and composer died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19, 2025 while swimming in the sea. He had gone to the Southeast Asian nation to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival.
Deka, who is on a visit to Assam, met Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of the late artist. Deeply moved, Deka offered words of comfort and shared in the grief that has enveloped the household and the entire Assamese community.
“I pray that God will give them the strength to endure this time of grief. Wherever you are, stay safe! You will live among us forever and ever in the hearts of each of us,” Chhattisgarh Governor said in an X post.
Speaking to the family members, Chhattisgarh Governor described Zubeen as a national treasure and cultural icon, whose voice “reflected the soul of Assam” and whose passing leaves a void that can never truly be filled.
Across Assam and the Northeast, thousands continue to pay tribute through candlelight vigils, music events, and public prayers celebrating the life and legacy of a legend whose melodies continue to unite hearts beyond boundaries.
