Sushma Sawant, the Principal District and Session Judge of Rajnandgaon, has been appointed as the Principal Secretary in the Law and Legislative Affairs Department in Chhattisgarh.
She will be the first woman to hold the coveted position in the Law Department of Chhattisgarh government. Sushma Sawant succeeds Rajnish Shrivastava, who has been transferred as Registrar General in the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The order, which was signed by Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel, will come into effect from the date Sushma Sawant assumed the charge.
She came into judicial service in April 1994 and worked in many important positions across the state. In May 2012, she was appointed as Additional Secretary in the Law and Legislative Affairs Department in Chhattisgarh.
Sushma Samant was District and Sessions at Mahasamund and Bilaspur before being appointed as Director in Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy in February 2022. She took charge as Principal District and Sessions Judge at Rajnandgaon on April 1, 2024.
