As vowed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the farmers of the state, the BJP government in Chhattisgarh on Thursday issued an order to purchase 21 quintals of paddy per acre from the farmers, paying Rs 3100 for a quintal of yield.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that the Chhattisgarh government would fulfill all the promises made to the people. “We will purchase paddy from the farmers of the state at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal,” he said.
It is estimated that 130 lakh metric tonnes of paddy will be procured in the state in the current kharif marketing season. About Rs 40,000 crore will be paid to the farmers in lieu of paddy production at support price.
Till now, only 15 quintals of paddy were being purchased from farmers at support price in the state, which the BJP government has increased to 21 quintals. Following procurement at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal, farmers will get additional profit of about Rs 23,355 per acre.
A maximum of Rs 41,745 was being paid to the farmers by purchasing 15 quintals of paddy per acre and including the total payment of input subsidy in four instalments by the previous Congress government. The farmers would get Rs 65,100 per acre after the implementation of Modi Ki Guarantee that would enable purchasing 21 quintals of paddy from farmers at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal.
The Chief Minister said that instructions had also been given to make better and adequate arrangements in all the procurement centers so that farmers do not face any problem in selling paddy. He said that on December 25, they are celebrating the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee as National Good Governance Day. On the day, the farmers of the state will be paid Rs 3716 crore 38 lakh 96 thousand as two years outstanding bonus.
The paddy procurement in the state started on November 1 and will continue till January 31. In all, 26.86 lakh farmers have registered themselves to sell paddy at a support price. The registered paddy area is 33 lakh 15 thousand hectares.
So far, about 9.25 lakh farmers have sold 42.20 lakh metric tonnes of paddy at the support price. The fresh order will also be applicable to the farmers who have sold their paddy.
