Chhattisgarh green panel receives three global records on World Environment Day

State-run Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) received three world records on the occasion of World Environment Day on Monday.

It includes Limca Book of World Record for making canvas paintings of 3600 square feet with cow dung paint, Star Book of World Record and World Record Book. The CECB created the world record for administering oaths of environment protection to over 1.23 million people on a single day.

The trophies and certificates were presented by Chhattisgarh Minister for Forests and Environment Mohammad Akbar to the Chairman of CECB, Subrata Sahoo. Akbar praised the public awareness campaign of the Board and said that public participation in environmental protection was necessary. The Minister said that the participation of everyone was necessary for the eradication of plastic.

“Our ancestors have handed over a healthy and clean environment to our heritage. It is the responsibility of all of us to improve it and hand it over to future generations,” Akbar said while addressing a seminar on the topic “Reducing the use of single use plastic by bringing changes in personal habits and behaviours”. He said there was a deep connection between nature and life. “The security of life and the prosperity of our future depend on its conservation and promotion,” he added.

Presiding over the program, Senior MLA and former Minister Satyanaran Sharma said nature had been their heritage and the whole world would have to unite and make a collective effort to save it.

CECB Chairman and Additional Chief Secretary Subrata Sahoo while giving information about the activities of the Board emphasized the need for individual efforts to stop the use of single use plastic. He  informed about the three world records achieved by the Board with the public participation. He congratulated the CECB for the feat.

Member Secretary of the CECB R P Tiwari said a mobile laboratory would be launched soon. Referring to the state-of-the-art environmental laboratory being prepared by the CECB, he described it as an international level laboratory. He also informed about the newly constructed building of the regional office of the Board.

The Public Relations Officer of the CECB, Amar Prakash Savant briefed about the world records bagged by the board. The Chief Minister’s appeal for the participation of people from all walks of life brought a revolutionary change in the mindset of the people and they came forward to support the campaign of the CECB for green cause, Savant added.

National Awards of Cartoon Watch magazine were also distributed on the occasion. The Parliamentary Secretary, Vikas Upadhyay and Chairman of Chhattisgarh Housing Board Kuldeep Juneja were also present at the function.
