Chhattisgarh Health Minister T S Singh Deo has been tested positive for the new COVID variant, Omicron even as state today reported 5151 new cases.
Singh Deo said he was one of the five patients in the state whose sample sent to Bhubaneswar was tested positive for Omicron, which World Health Organisation (WHO) categorised as “variant of concern.” The Minister said there was no need to panic and only precautions had to be taken as the virus spread quickly.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh registered 5151 new patients in the last 24 hours as compared to 4120 patients tested positive on Monday. Four patients died today. Of them, one died due to COVID and other three because of co-morbidity. Two deaths were reported in Raipur while one each in Bilaspur and Raigarh.
According to the state health department bulletin, the total active case in Chhattisgarh as on Tuesday is 23886. In all, 102 patients were discharged from the hospitals after their report were tested negative.
The state capital of Chhattisgarh continued to remain the hot spot with 1454 cases reported in Raipur followed by 790 in Durg, 596 in Raigarh, 443 in Korba and 396 in Bilaspur.
