The Central Government on Monday notified the appointment of two advocates as Additional Judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
They include Bibhu Datta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad. “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S!Shri (i) Bibhu Datta Guru and (ii) Amitendra Kishore Prasad, to be Additional Judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices,” the notification issued said.
On July 30, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) Collegium had recommended the names of two advocates for appointment as judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court. The resolution was passed by the Collegium constituting Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justice B R Gavai, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna. While recommending their names, the SC Collegium said that for assessing the merit and suitability of the candidates for elevation to the High Court, it has scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record. It added they had also perused the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file as well as the complaints received against the candidates.
After considering these aspects, the Collegium said, “In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that S/Shri (i) Bibhu Datta Guru, and (ii) Amitendra Kishore Prasad @ A K Prasad, Advocates, be appointed as Judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh. Their inter se seniority be fixed as per the existing practice.”
