Chhattisgarh inks deal with 8 banks for police salary package

Chhattisgarh government on Friday inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with eight major banks for police salary package.

The banks include State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and IDBI Bank. The salary package is a special saving account providing a number of benefits to the account holder. The policemen working in Chhattisgarh will now have the privilege to open accounts in any of the listed banks according to convenience.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai termed the development as a strong basis of security and cooperation for the police personnel. He said that the agreement reflected the commitment of the State Government towards the employees of the Police Department. He said that the deal would not only empower the police personnel financially but will also meet the needs of their families. It will further strengthen the Chhattisgarh government’s policy of good governance and transparency and will bring positive changes in the efficiency and morale of the police personnel.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma described the initiative as a historic step towards the welfare of the police department. He said that the police personnel have been given the freedom to open a salary account in any bank as per their convenience and requirement. There will be no compulsion or additional charge for this. The proposals received from all the banks will be sent to the police units so that the police personnel can choose the most suitable bank as per their needs.

The agreement will provide several benefits for the police personnel and their families. It includes provision of life insurance amount ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in cases of normal death, assistance of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore in cases of accidental death, Rs 30 lakh to Rs 1 crore in cases of permanent disability and Rs 22.5 lakh to Rs 1 crore for partial disability.

Financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 20 lakh will be available for higher education of children and Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for girl’s marriage. Financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh will be provided to the families of police personnel martyred in Naxal violence.
