Raipur, December 2
Tension escalated in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Friday after a Minister had heated exchanges with a senior legislator on the issue of caste reservation.
The Bhupesh Baghel government tabled a bill related to caste reservation on the second day of two-day special session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposed the move stating that the Congress government did not maintain transparency and kept the opposition members in dark.
The opposition members also charged that the bill was tabled just ahead of the Bhanupratappur assembly by-election to influence the polling. The ruling party members also started countering the allegations that created chaos.
Following the ruckus, the House was adjourned for 10 minutes. When it reassembled, the BJP members again raised the issue that created pandemonium in the House. Chhattisgarh Minister for Urban Development Shiv Daharia and senior BJP legislator and former Minister Ajay Chandrakar came face-to-face and entered into ugly verbal debate.
The war of words took a drastic twist when both scrummed. A senior legislator said the Minister and the member were furious and could have manhandled each other had the senior members not intervened.
