Jagdalpur, January 15

The Chhattisgarh police nabbed four Maoists including a hardcore woman leader from Odisha in state’s otherwise insurgency-free Dhamtari district.

The woman leader had been identified as Karuna C. She is reported to be the wife of Sangram Singh, the senior most Maoist leader in Odisha.

Sources said Karuna had been diagnosed with a serious cataract in eyes and was suggested to undergo surgery. She along with three others reached a private hospital in Ratnabandha road of Dhamtari.

The cyber police received a tip about the arrival of Karuna. Following the information, the Dhamtari police laid a well-planned trap and nabbed all the four from the hospital.

The police officials are interrogating the arrested Maoists to collect more details. Dhamtari district is otherwise free from the Maoist activities but the presence of rebels was spotted on the pocket adjoining Odisha.

Being the adjoining area, the rebels from Odisha might have found Dhamtari a safe haven for treatment, the police officials suspect. However, the hospital authorities had also come under the scanner as the investigation would also cover the doctors’ involvement with the rebels.

The Dhamtari police are now searching the CCTV footage of the hospital to get further details. The officers said the doctors would also be quizzed to establish whether they had treated rebels in the past too.
