Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Ashok Juneja has dashed off letter to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the killing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in state’s restive Narayanpur district.

The suspected Maoist cadre gunned down Sagar Sahu, the district Vice President of BJP, in Chotedongar area of restive Narayanpur district last Friday. BJP President J P Nadda attended the funeral of Sahu while the party planned to launch an agitation against the killing of its leaders in the red zone.

Ahead of BJP’s gherao of Inspector General of Police in Bastar, Chhattisgarh police chief reportedly wrote a letter to the NIA Director urging to take over the investigation of the case. State government spokesperson citing the content said Juneja had sought NIA probe into the killing of three politicians in Bastar in the past week.

In his letter, the DGP said Naxalites were enraged because of continuous shrinkage in Maoist territory. “Naxalites are targeting public representatives and common people in a fit of rage” he said, adding that the efforts of Central Security Force and State Police resulted in successful elimination of Naxalites in the past years.
