Chhattisgarh police gun down 3 Maoists

Jagdalpur, January 20

Three Maoists including two women cadres were killed in an encounter with Chhattisgarh police in Bijapur district Saturday morning.

Acting on an intelligence input about the presence of over two dozen Maoists led by senior commanders Vinod Karma, Raju Punem, Vishwanath and Guddu Telam, the security forces Saturday morning launched an operation. Besides the 210 battalion of CRPF’s elite CoBRA commandos, jawans from the District Reserve Group (DRG) from Bijapur formed the joint group and raided in the hills of Belam Gutta near Balam Nedra under Basaguda police station area.

The rebels opened fire soon after spotting the forces. The jawans immediately took the position and retaliated. The Maoists fled the spot.

The security forces launched an intensive search operation in the area and discovered three bodies of the Maoists. Of them, two are women cadres. The bodies will be brought to the nearest police station where the identification process will be completed.

Besides weapons, security forces also recovered explosives, propaganda materials of Maoist organization, uniforms, stooges, medicines and items from the spot.
