Chhattisgarh police gun down Maoist in Bijapur, apprehend two

Jagdalpur, April 18

A Maoist was killed while two others were nabbed in an encounter between the security forces and the Left-Wing Extremists (LWEs) in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Tuesday morning.

The Bijapur Superintendent of Police, Anjneya Varshney had confirmed the incident and said the gunbattle started at around 8 am when a District Reserve Group (DRG) team was ambushed by the rebels. The incident took place in Kachlawari of Naimed police station area.

The jawans gave a befitting reply and forced the rebels to retreat. During the search operation, the jawans discovered the body of a male Maoists. The identification of the body was in process, the officials said.

Two Maoists were also apprehended from the encounter site. Of them, one is reported to be injured and the jawans were providing the medical care.
