Chhattisgarh: Police officer martyred in Maoist blast

Jagdalpur, March 27

A junior police officer was martyred in an improvised explosive devise (IED) blast reportedly planted by the Left-Wing Extremists (LWE) in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday morning.

The officer, Vijay Yadav, was Assistant Platoon Commander with the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and hailed from Rajpur in Balia district of Uttar Pradesh. On Monday morning, he led a troop from Timanaar camp for an area domination operation and provide security cover to an on-going road construction project.

The force was moving towards Etapal. Sources said just a kilometer away from the Etapal camp, Yadav stepped on an IED near Tekari that blew him up. The officer died on the spot.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel condemned the incident and expressed grief over the martyrdom of CAF Assistant Platoon Commander Vijay Yadav. Baghel denounced the Naxalites’ cowardly deed, describing it as “sad”.
