The Chhattisgarh police cracked the sensational Axis Bank robbery case within 24 hours and nabbed 5 accused besides recovering over Rs 5 crore robbed from the bank’s Raigarh branch.
In a stunning incident of day-light robbery, about 10 persons struck at the Axis Bank’s Dhimrapur branch in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday morning and decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 5.62 crore. The robbers, according to the CCTV footage, fled in motorcycles in different directions to misguide the police investigating team.
The entire police machinery was put on alert to solve the biggest bank robbery incident in the state. The investigating team received the first input that hinted the accused was travelling by a CRETA vehicle. One of the motorcycles was discovered in a deserted position near a Nullah on Kharsia road.
Late in the night, the Ramanujganj police intercepted a CRETA vehicle on the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border. During interrogation, the police team smelled foul play and strictly quizzed the occupants. During questioning, two occupants broke and revealed the sequence.
On their tip off, the police intercepted a truck in which the robbers were transporting the cash and booty. The accused had executed the crime in a meticulously planned strategy and had purchased the truck to transport the money. The police arrested three persons from the truck.
The police officials said the entire amount robbed from the Axis Bank had been recovered while five persons had been arrested. The massive hunt had been launched to nab their accomplices. All accused belong to Jharkhand and Bihar.
