A 60-year-old woman died inside a polling booth in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar district on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Sahodra, a resident of Malda under Kasdol assembly constituency in Balodabazar district. Kasdol is among the 70 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh that are going to the second and final phase of polling on Friday.

Sources said the woman was standing in the queue to vote in polling booth number 76 in village Malda to participate in the festival of democracy. She suddenly collapsed. The others in the queue and the polling officials tried to revive but could not succeed. She died in the polling station itself.

Bhupendra Aggarwal, the Election Officer of Kasdol, confirmed the incident. The Kasdol police have started the investigation even as the preliminary probe suggested that she died of cardiac arrest.
